My favorite time of the year, that is! Really, my
favorite times of the year are a Snow Day, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving
or my Birthday. However, there’s one
more day that’s just as spectacular. And
that day is…School Supply Shopping Day!
WooHoo! I do love me some school supplies. Of course, being a writer, I must have office
supplies. Fun, whimsical entertaining
office supplies like my high heeled pink shoe tape dispensers. There’s one for magic tape and one for double
sided tape, because you must have a pair of shoes, right? Of course, there’s the matching sticky note
purse sitting on my desktop, too.
What’s more fun than a brand new box of Crayola Crayons? Especially at fifty-four cents per box! They’re all lined up in that production line
order of color, with clean, pointed tips, and all in one piece. They’re wrappers are fully intact. They have those reliable color names we’ve all
become attached to.
Though, it still gets under my skin a little that the beloved Periwinkle is not included in the box of
24. Sigh.
Anyway, I love that the Crayola Company leaves me just
enough room to hand write my children’s name on the crayon next to the color
name. I know it sounds ridiculously anal
of me to do that, but I learned years ago that that one little extra effort
gives my kids a very serious sense of ownership and they take care of them
better because their mommy labeled each and every color just for them. So I cowgirl up and do it. Stephanie’s
probably rolling her eyes at me right now!
Ha! It’s okay. I’ll still do it. It’s mommy-daughter tradition now.
My next favorite school supply is closely related to the
crayon and that’s the brand new box of markers.
Now this is where my inner five year old and inner 15 year old self can
agree, as well as my outer 35? year old.
: D See, Washable Markers have
incredible qualities. Like face painting
and watercoloring and washing out of my clothes, too. Regular Markers are equally good for things
you don’t want to wash out as easily. Like
maybe a poster or a craft project. But
then you move up to the indelible, the magnificent Sharpie 24 Pack that has
every little artist's dream wrapped up tightly in permanent color
fixation. Oh how I love me some colored
markers!
And folks, that’s just the tip of the list! The supplies go on and on with pencils and
pens, sticky notes, lined notebook paper, folders, glue sticks, spirals, and so
much more! This year’s big purchase for
me is college books. Not fun. But my favorite office supply purchase is the
iPoint Evolution Pencil Sharpener! Well…? I needed one for my colored pencils.
Do you like shopping for school supplies or office
supplies? What’s your favorite item? And here's the big question...
What's your favorite crayon color?
I have to admit, I don't really love shopping for school supplies. I kind of like shopping for clothes and jewelry, but mostly I'd rather stay home. (I know, I know, I am a stick in the mud.)
ReplyDeleteI love the red crayon. It was always the first one to get used down to a nub. But I loved me a box of 64 crayons and a coloring book. So loved to color and to match my people's outfits, color coordinating them. I love any color that is close to red, pink, or purple. My favorites. Right now I'm into making paper beads. Unfortunately for my writing! Because all week, when I know I should be writing, I find myself rolling beads, seeing how different colors look, and seeing which pages out of my old calenders make the best beads with the best coordinating colors. Some things never change, I guess.
Oh, and I made the most amazing beads out of pages from my RWR magazine!!! If if plan it just right, I can make my beads have a word showing. I just made my first necklace and one bead says "I do" and another one says "life." Cool, huh? I'll wear it to the next meeting! Except I don't think I'll make it this month!
ReplyDeleteOh, Melanie! I LOVE this about You! Color coordination and beading....how fun is that? I can't wait to see your beautiful beads...I am amazed! For the record, online shopping is the greatest invention ever...I can shop in my PJs. Love that! I'm not much for shopping for clothes and such most days. And it's my own fault. I decide in my head what I want beforehand only to find that no one carries what I'm looking for. I drive myself crazy. And then I buy a box of crayons and all is well in my world! :D
DeleteI LOVE shopping for school supplies. Office supplies. Paper. Oh, the smell of paper and ink. Sigh. Turn me loose in Office Depot or Staples, and I'm a happy woman.
ReplyDeleteAnd my favorite crayola color is Periwinkle.
LJ
A Periwinkle lover! Yay! Of course I think I recognized these qualities in you when I learned you did framing at one time or another. We have that art gene...it runs deep. And with the art gene is the supplies gene...they go hand in hand. I bet you take a deep breath when you walk into Barnes and Noble, too, don'tcha! :D Love it!
DeleteWow! I need to go out and buy cute office stuff! I already have a red shoe tape dispenser courtesy of Crystal Lee. Thanks, Crystal!
ReplyDeleteBut where do you find all these other cute office supplies? Heehee!
Loved buying new school supplies for the kids when they were younger. College supplies are more expensive. Ugh!
Favorite color? Hmmmm.... I always loved the different shades of green and red.
Markers? Remind me of staining clothes. But I do love a new pair of sharpies. Woot!
Oh Kathy! We must shop! Google images of tape dispensers and the purse image comes up too. Then just google office supplies...it's always changing. Women must be in the office supply driving seat finally. Fun stuff! Then of course, there's Hobby Lobby! Love them, too.
DeleteI don't like college supplies so much. Now I know why mommas go crazy over the dorm room shopping. It's the only fun part. Sigh.
And fyi: Greased Lightning gets out marker stains and just about anything else. You can find it with cleaning supplies at the grocery store or at Lowe's too...by the gallon!
