Cow Songs and Guit-fiddles

The cows are bored with my song selections.  They’ve turned their backs on me lately.  So I’ve decided it’s time to new it up a bit.  That’s exactly what I did this week while I was recovering from being broadsided by my characters.  (They’re not playing nicely with me at the moment, either.  Buggars!)  And if you know me any bit at all, you know somewhere deep inside my soul lives the heart of a gypsy woman.  I do love me some gypsy music, wagons, dancing, etc.  Oh!  And travel.  Let’s not forget the traveling parts!

Anyway, in my music wanderings I landed on Youtube at this guitarist’s recordings and I think I may have found a kindred soul!  I LOVE this man’s work (Minus the Beatles.  I may be the only living creature on earth that doesn’t think the Beatles are King. :/)!  Back to my new musician love, Mr. Adrian Holovaty.  Oh that my fingers would imitate his manipulations of the strings.  Alas....I'm content with my voice dancing around the finger pickings and strums.  Sigh.  Yes, sadly, I am musically codependent.  : /

Here’s a song by this wonderful gypsy jazz guitarist for you to enjoy.

This singing gig of mine goes back to when I was a kid.  Eventually in high school my Driver’s Ed teacher told me to go to Nashville.  He said I had the boobs for it.  (I know, right!  Totally PI!)  Anyway, I never went to Nashville until I moved to Alabama a few years back.  And though I could sing a country tune as easy as anything else, it’s not what makes my heart beat, leap or jump.  But give me some Hoagy or Lena or Ella or Louis and I am in my own musical universe!  Well, and Adelle, Jason M, Kelly C, Emmy Lou, oh and we can’t leave out   Allison K….loVe her voice!  And Ray or Cat or….well, I just love it all I guess.  But my voice tells me ….and my heart agrees….sing a song that moves the soul and all will be well.  Like Mr. Carmichael said, Never play anything that don't sound right. You might not make any money, but at least you won't get hostile with yourself.   Music.  It is my heartbeat.

In celebration of Kathy’s book sale this week, I’m adding an old favorite Norah Jones tune to my playlist for the girls (cows).  Here…..you enjoy it, too.  This one’s for you Kathy!  (Everyone lift your glass and toast her book sale!  WooHoo!)

To close, y’all help me out here, will you?  If you could sit and enjoy a song or two over drinks with your friends, what would it be?  What would you want to hear playing while you and you’re honey danced in each other’s arms?  What song would you celebrate life with?  Most importantly, what songs do you think the girls will mosey on over to hear at the banks of the river while the fireflies light the stage?

  1. Brown-eyed Girl and Tupelo Honey. Nothing says lazy summer romance like those songs.

    2. Oh...Jean! You're goooooood! The girls are going to LoVe these selections! They might even dance back to the river and stay just for Brown Eyed Girl! Van might not forgive me for what I'll do to the rhythm, but well...artistic liberty and all that. :D

  2. I understand that music is the sound track of our lives but I just never really think about what I want to hear.

Sometimes I want to hear Jimmy Buffet in the summer or in the winter when I am wishing for summer, does that count?

    1. Jimmy Buffet Works for me....I mean, hey! I've got Christmas songs in July to help me cool down from the heat! I suspect the girls like a chill-down from the hot sun, too! Tehe...but I won't go so far as to put a Christmas wreath over their necks. That would just be over the top. :D Thanks, Stephanie!

    2. So....I might have to steer away from Cheeseburger in Paradise due to it's sensitive nature, but how about some Changes in Attitudes....the girls could take a hint? :D

    3. Yeah and play some Buffet - he went to AUBURN. :)

  3. Over my shoulder....I just got a request, folks. It's Jason Mraz's new song "I Won't Give Up". And I love it....it reminds me of an old friend I still think of regularly. Maybe if I sing the song the old freind'll show up to harmonize and actually play the guitar for me? (Oooh!) That would be amazing! Lalala.....

This new set is coming together very nicely! Keep 'em coming.....

Woot!

    1. Oh you're SO welcome! You deserve all the shout outs we can give you!

And Bryan Adams....I love that man! I already have "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman" in my lineup (love that Spanish guitar part!). And of course, in honor of your dreams coming true I'll add "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes". What Adele song do you love most? I can't pick....I love them all! :D

Sting's Fields of Gold gets me every time. Sigh. And never be without the Phantom's Music of the Night. Oh yes! One Republic's Good Life. Madonna's Live to Tell. All stirring looks within the soul and of a loved one. Yes!!!

For kicks and grins Iggy Pops' Cars!!!!

    1. Ahh....I've got a peaceful.....easy feeling....I know you won't let me down..... ♫♪ ... love, loVe, LOVE that song, Cheryl! And I already have that one down....I just don't sing it much because I like doing the harmonies on it...and pretty much any of the other Eagles tunes. I can't rely on the girls to join in. They don't sing lead. No, they just mooOOOoo and chew their cud and stand around like they own the place or something! Ha!

Oh! And I never even thought about Seals and Crofts! Then they remind me of Simon and Garfunkel and that of course reminds me of bawdy Renaissance Faire tunes of an altogether different era that will make my neighbors come over for Ale and Mead! Of course, then I'd have to have all the historical authors join in and we'd have us a parTAY! :D Kathy....?

Or, it could take a different turn and the Sheriff's Deputies could drop by. Not good. We'll stick with the Eagles. Just to be safe. (See! I CAN pull myself back from a Laura Numeroff!)

Oh! And I DO have Buffet in the lineup, Cheryl, but.....we'll even it out with some Aaron Neville and Harry Connick Jr.....I have to pull for my homeland, sugar! Tehe.....

    2. Adore the Eagles - my favs. But I also love Aaron Neville and the Neville Brothers. As for Harry Connick Jr. I love his singing but I really like to just look at him.

  6. "In The Summertime" from the 60's. I don't recall who the artist was. Also anything by Creedence Clearwater Revival is good and Bob Seger, too.

    1. Oh...OH...OOOH!!! Love me some Bob Seger! I used to love to drive to his sound as fast as my car would take me. And Lordy but he was pretty with all that hair when he was young! Ok...so, I think I'm going to have to pick "Betty Lou's Gettin' Out Tonight"! Then CCR's "Have You Ever Seen the Rain". I'd love to do "Born on the Bayou" but there's too much dead air time with just me and no guit-fiddle. Mungo Jerry did "In The Summertime" and oh how I will love funking up that song!

You've reminded me of some Eric Clapton and Lynard Skynard (how could I forget about them? Gasp!) and .....Jackson Browne! Yes! We are rounding out a very good list here tonight! Thanks Pat! :D

  7. Ok y'all. I've got another over-the-shoulder request from my Veezer. It's Corinne Bailey Rae's "Put Your Records On". But just between you and me (Shh!)...I think I'm going to have to ask her to learn this one on her guitar and sing harmonies with me. Don't you think so? I'm sneaky, huh? :D
