Here Comes the New Year

The new year is here whether you are ready or not.

As you read this it is New Year's Eve Eve. Tomorrow is a new day. The next day is a new year.

I have spent the last few days cleaning out drawers, cabinets and closets in my house. It is a really great feeling to be going into the new year with new clean space in my house!

Yesterday Kathy's blog made us think about what we hope to accomplish in the new yea--new goals or goals that we have recommitted to. For me, getting the mundane parts of my life tidied up are an important part of getting a fresh start on the new year. Mentally it helps me to feel as if most of the other parts in my life are under control before I set off in a new direction. For me, cleaning our drawers and closets is always a part of that.

What do you do to prepare for the new year?

Winner Announcement: The winner of last Thursday's contest is Marilyn!

Thanks to everyone for your comments about the perks of a December birthday!

  1. I wish I was cleaning out closets and cabinets. ;)

I'm pondering my achievements and any regrets about this year as well setting achieveable goals for 2011. My new calendar should come in very handy for this. :D

  2. I'm hoping to get closet organizers for our new closets. At the moment they are still empty. Nothing like a blank slate. I am also gearing up to work on creating a new me in the New Year and the possibilities are breathing new life into my writing goals as well.

  3. That's what I'm missing, Crystal! A breath of new life! Would exercising help? ;)

  4. I just don't know. I used to run a very very tight ship from my calendar to my closets. Then I starting writing and I began to channel my crazy inner demon fairy. Calendar? Who cares? Grocery List. Ha, ha, ha. Just buy stuff and hope for the best. What's in the closet? Stuff. Put more in.

  5. I haven't made any big plans for the New Year. I should be cleaning out closets and drawers and running down to the office supply store to pick up that snazzy calender Kathy blogged about. But what am I doing this week besides not working? Sitting on my behind and loving every minute of it! Y'all cannot believe how lazy I have been this week! So, I think I'll just let this New Year casually stroll on in and I'll pick up the pace next week when things get back to normal. ;-D

  6. Oh, I like the idea of putting more stuff in my closet, Jean. Thanks! Does that mean more trips to Ross for me? ;)

Sherry, I don't know what it is about the aftermath of the holidays but all I want to do nowadays is act lazy. We get so keyed up months leading into Thanksgiving that we experience a drastic spin-out when Christmas is over. Allow yourself this time. That way, when you're ready, you'll be able to give your writing 150%. ;)

  7. Thank you for my prize. I'm so sorry I didn't check back to see if my 5th perk was a winner. And I *love* the particular flavor of shower gel you chose. It's in my bathroom now just waiting to be used. :-)
