Back to School Daze

Once again, it is back to school time.  I love this time of year!  I know that there are many teachers who back to school and many more parents who love it.  I suppose both  are natural, but I always get so excited whenever I think about the fresh start a new school year gives us.

My students come to me not really knowing much about me. They are always so excited and often a little nervous about starting a new grade with a new teacher.  I am always excited to get new students to start new adventures.

This year I am changing grade levels and so I got to change rooms.  I love, love, my new room and have thanked my principal more than once for the new opportunities that she is giving me this year. My school has registration tomorrow, when I will meet some of my new students' parents for the first time.  My room is all ready with a jungle theme (Gooooo  Tigers!),  its uber cool student library (complete with reading cave), and   publishing center with a new computer and printer.  I am looking forward to a great new year!

What is your best back to school memory?

  1. First, I have to ask this, "Go Tigers?" Knowing you, you certainly are not referring to good ol' Aubbie! (Though it would be uber cool if you were. ;)

Going back to school is always such an expectant time. I'm sure you're eager to meet your new students for the first time, and their parents as well. We all know that parents are a BIG factor in how your students will behave in the classroom.

I hope you have a great group of student this year!

  2. Your jungle theme sounds wonderful! How very exciting! Visual aids will certainly assist in drawing your students into the adventure of a new school year.

As a kid, getting new school supplies was always a fun time. Everything was shiny and unblemished, and the school year was full of promise.

  3. I didn't want to go back to school. ;) I'd rather stay home and read what I wanted to read. And write, of course. I was always a writer. But I did love those shiny new supplies! Oh, and I'm sure you don't use these anymore, but that smell of the mimeograph paper when the teacher handed something out. Sad to think there are no more mimeograph pages. :/

  4. Oh, Lynn, I remember that smell! There was something magical about it.

  5. There was, Crystal! I don't know why, but there was.

  6. Kathy, you are correct, I am NOT referring to Aubie. lol Our school mascot is also a tiger! And yes, it was a lot of fun to see my students today, some for the first time but most I knew from last year. I did get to meet a bunch of new parents!

Crystal, ahhh ye, mimeograph pages are a thing of the past and that is a little sad. On the other hand now they get to have an interactive smart board so I think they are ok with the trade!. :-)

Lynn, I can see why you wouldn't want to go back to school but I hope you had some teachers who encouraged you to read what you wanted and to always write. I know that many teachers don't do these things but the good ones do!

    Jean, you said it all!

  7. I never wanted to go back to school - I was having too much fun! I agree with Jean, with one minor variation, who wouldn't like football (on the Plains), new school supplies and, of course, new shoes?
