They Said It was Supposed to Be Good For Me

There are many things in life that we do because someone tells us it is supposed to be good for us. My school nurse recently came around to talk with us about getting immunized for some diseases that are on the upswing in America, especially in school aged children. A local clinic was going to come to our school and give immunizations to any of the adults who wanted them. This entire process would be simple and free. Nurse W would even come by and watch my class so that I could go to get the shots. Wow! What a great opportunity!

That actually happened yestereday. Nurse watched my class and I got to go to get the immunizations. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Then last night it seemed like a mistake. I didn't feel good and I fell asleep on the couch even though I had a lot that I needed to get done. I did wake up and move to the bed around ten and slept like a rock. I just thought that I was more tired because I had done a couple of mornings of bus duties and not gotten much sleep for a few nights. Little did I realize that I was suffering because of the immunizations that I had recieved. Today, however, I know that I am miserable because of it. I have a slight fever and I feel cranky and out of sorts. Well, that is really an understatement because I feel like crap, crap, crap. I know that it is for my own good because now I won't have diphtheira, hepatitis A-Z, tetanus or the whooping cough but I don't have to like it right now.

When was the last time you did something that you knew was good for you in the long run but that was painful for you in the short term?

  1. Last Friday, I made 14 batches of peanut brittle, 4 batches of toffee, and two batches of peanut butter fudge for thank gifts for the people who help with the Wednesday night meals at my church.

Now that's it's done and my kitchen is clean I feel great about. And the really liked it.

At the time, I was really tired.

  2. Exercise. It is suppose to be good for you but I swear it's killing me! I have sore muscles on a regular basis and on the days we do lunges and squats I rely heavily on the bathroom vanity for for uhhh...assistance. Three weeks ago I pulled a tendon/ligament in my hamstring area during yoga class and had to go to the Dr. My friend strained her rotor cuff during our body sculpting class and had to get a cortisone shot in her shoulder. Ouch. And to top it all off I haven't noticed a decrease in inches or on that stupid scale. The couch is looking better and better. :-D
Hope you're feeling better soon Stephanie!!

  3. In a word, divorce. 'Nuff said.

Sorry the shots have made you feel poorly, but at least we know we won't have to nurse you through diptheria.

In the end, this turned out to be the most wonderful gift from God and I would do it a hundred thousand times over to have Grace, but HAVE MERCY! It was not fun getting her out!

  5. Wow! Y'alls experiences are all so much more than my was.

Jean-I am sure they enjoyed the candy. They were lucky to get it!

Sherry-You may not see the results of all the excerise but I bet there is a pay off in being more healthy over all.

Marilyn-Yeah, divorce stinks but just think how now you have tons of new possibilities in your future. None of which are nurse me through any diseases.

Laurie-I can certainly see where labor is worth the work but no fun at the time!

  6. Hang in there, Stephanie! As you said, in the long run, we'll all be looking to you to be the healthy one. ;)

Jean is such a great cook. I'm sure everyone who received her candies had a fabulous time indulging. :D

Sherry, I've been so bad. I simply won't get up and exercise early in the morning and then there is always too much to be done in the afternoon. My body tells me I need to exercise but my brain says, go eat some of that leftover Halloween candy. ;)

When one door closes, a window always opens, Marilyn. Someday soon you will be able to touch the rainbow that will appear over that rain cloud you've been under for way too long.

Oh! After having four children, I can so relate to what you're saying Laurie. This teaches us that through the greatest labor, the end result is worth the pain. :)

  7. And how could I forget... getting our Master's Degree (Stephanie)! I had to go on medicine just to get through it. What about you, Stephanie? Did you have to seek medical help?
