TEAM WOODY OR TEAM BUZZ?

Toy Story 3 was hard on me. If you haven't seen it and don't want a spoiler, don't worry. I'm not going to give you one. The only thing I'm going to give away is something you find out the first minute of the movie: Andy is 17! And he's about to go to college!

My friends, I was not mentally prepared for this. The Guy and I love the Toy Story movies. We paid full price in the theater every time. Though we first bought the original on video, we now have the first two on DVD. It's just a matter of time before the Blu-Rays move in. They are always there for me—Slink, The Army men, Bo Peep, Etch, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, not to mention Woody and Buzz. Both the previous movies seemed to have an elusive time quality about them—that is to say I could never pinpoint an exact decade. I thought Andy's Room was a place where nothing changes—a Brigadoon meets Toys R Us, if you will. I have a fond memory of painting my living room with Godson's Mom, Plotter, and Oldest Friend, while "To infinity and beyond!" resonated in the background. We kept saying to two-year-old Precious Angel, "Go watch Toy Story!"

Well. Precious Angel can drive now, which is not a bad thing because he will run errands. I didn't expect him to stay two. But would it have been too much to ask for Andy not to grow up? I was counting on that when I walked into that theater. I cried a little. Okay, not a little. You'd have thought it was Brian's Song and Brain Piccolo had died all over again.

So, I like Twilight as well some, better than most. But I have grown a little weary of the Team Edward or Team Jacob question.

So my question for you today is Team Woody or Team Buzz? Also, have you seen the movie? What did you think?

  1. Sorry, but it's been years since I watched Toy Story. My own son, recently graduated from college, had a brief fling with the movie and I got to watch it endlessly...over and over... I haven't seen the second one but now you have intrigued my interest about the third one. I suppose I will have to watch it now. Maybe I can make my son go with me, you know, sort of payback for all those hours hearing "To Infinity and Beyond!"

I am in the team Woody camp. Maybe because he has Tom Hanks's voice. I don't know. Maybe because he seems a bit smarter... Any way, I love Tom Hanks! And I love the cowboy (You know me and cowboys)! Yippee Ki yay!

Score one for you Pantster - you've made me actually want to see the movie!

  2. I haven't seen TS2 either but I too am intrigued by 3. I watched a fascinating show in TV about the history of Pixar and they included a lot about Toy Story. I think it was the first full length computer animated film? And of course it's responsible for that iconic saying "To infinity and beyond!"

Haven't seen any of the Twilight movies. I guess I'm on Team Woody too. I just adore Tom Hanks.

  3. Aw! What a hard choice. I've seen both movies but haven't seen the latest version. #4 saw it and cried too, if that makes you feel any better. (And her being my last child to go away to school.) Maybe I shouldn't see it. But I did hear that Ken stole the movie. Perhaps I shall go for Ken. ;)

Actually, while loving Woody, I've always been a Buzz fan. Must be the adventurer answering the call to go to infinity and beyond. Come to think of it, that is my motto.

  4. Cheryl--It is well worth the watch.

PM--I think it was the first full length animated film. I know it was years in the making.

Kathy--Ken was quite the spectacle. Let's just say the Ken in my toy box never behaved that way!

  5. Being a faithful Tom Hanks fan, I have to vote for Team Woody. I've only watched Toy Story 1 and that was years ago.
I may have to miss TS3. Y'all know I don't watch movies that will make me cry! :-D

BTW- Barbara probably rolled over in her grave. It was a Pekingese, not a poodle. Whoops!

  6. Sherry--Wait for the DVD if you don't want to cry. Trust me. Do you think Barbara took that dog swimming?
